B - reporting

It was quite cold this morning, but had porridge and coffee and warmed up while watching a herd of horses grazing on the hills opposite our camp. Then headed towards Tosontsengel, where we hope to buy petrol and chocolate.

The roads were bad, very corrugated and potholey. Yes, that's a word. We stopped for coffee and a rest about 10, by a river with black ducks I surprised into flight. Here we discovered one of the bolts off our Hi-Lift Jack had been shaken off, and is lost forever somewhere in outer Mongolia.

We stopped by a river to fill our empty jerrycan, and to rinse our laundry. We bought a bucket ages ago, in Russia, which we fill with detergent and water and clothes, and just use the jiggly roads to wash...the problem is finding clean water to rinse them!

Tosontsengel is a nice town, with a main street with lamp-posts! And many small shops, most of which we went in, on our quest for Spam! Found no actual Spam, but bought bread, veg (onions, garlic and carrots), beer, chocolate and mystery meat (had a cow on the tin). We headed towards Lake Telmen.

The roads were pretty bad here, hills very stony. At about 3:30 we found a bit of forest near the road, so turned up it to camp about 2 km from the road. The forests here are very different from the pine forests in BC - there is no vegetation or even a pine needle carpet, but very short (grazed) grass everywhere. And also, dried animal dung wherever you go. Still very beautiful, though.

No mystery meat tonight - but a tin of tuna! With garlic, onion, red pepper (our last!) sweetcorn and cucumber, quite a healthy dinner. Plus, of course, beeer.
