B - reporting

Today's plan was simple: go to the internet cafe to check emails and upload blog, then head towards Lake Ureg. However, the cafe was not open so we bumbled around Ulaangom for a while, watching the eagles wheel around overhead. Finally the caff opened, but after sending only one email the entire town's power went off. We waited...and waited...went to a bakery/cafe, where the wiily staff had hot water in thermos flasks and had a sachet of "American-style coffee"...wondered round grocery stores hunting for the elusive peanut butter...purchased some wizened green peppers and what we hoped was yoghurt.

Electricity came back at 1pm, so we blogged frantically then headed west, over a steep but beautiful mountain pass, where we saw a camel train, a herd of horses and a beautifully made-up young woman herding goats from horseback.

Lake Ureg is a vivid turquoise, contrasting spectacularly with the steep, barren hills surrounding it. We found a flat bit to camp on, and got the chairs and beers out.
