The Journey so far.....

B - reporting

It was chilly and cloudy this morning, but we had delicous porridge with condensed milk which warmed us right up! We headed west, towards Lake Khyorgas. The roads were slow and very corrugated, so we stopped frequently: for coffee; for a rest; and to take pics of a herd of camels! I'm still delighted by the various herds of animals we see. Yaks are my favourite so far...they are so handsome, so very hairy and so much cleverer than cows. If they were smaller, I'd kidnap one as a pet (yaknap?).

We reached the lake by lunchtime, and had soup by its shores. The lake itself was beautiful, with turquoise waters and sandy shores. We saw hundreds of cormorants, and a few swans and gulls, but there was no shelter anywhere and the land round the lake (lakeshore, I guess!) was rocky and dry. It waS as if the moon had a beautiful lake on its surface.

We failed to find the hot springs mentioned - in different locations - in our map, GPS and two guide books, so headed north-ish to Ulaangom. We left the moon-landscape lakeshore and were back to the now-familiar rounded, green hills to find a beautiful campsite in a hanging valley 40km from Ulaangom.

Full moon tonight, but sadly too cloudy to see it though it did make everything lovely and bright.
Dust, dust and more dust

I do like to be beside the seaside

Love my wide angle lens.
