The Journey so far.....

B - reporting

We headed out early, after a delicious breakfast of porridge*, aiming for Gros Morne park on the west coast of Newfoundland. After stocking up on food and fuel in Gander we headed north to the National Park

The weather was quite cloudy, but the coastline was stunning. The west coast is very different to the east, with a lot more granite and exposed cliffs. The strange geology is easily visible, unemcumboured by trees or grass. This whole area was recently** part of the earth's molten magma, forced up by continental drift, the filling in the North American/North African plate sandwich, if you will. The mars-like red rocks were wreathed in mist, really eerie for us west-coasters.

We chose a campsite in a hilly forest site. G once again McGuyvered a brilliant system of tarps so we could read and cook in perfect dryness.

* disclaimer: can't actually recall, but there is a high probability that it was porridge. Plus, with nutella added, any breakfast is improved!

** geologically speaking...500 million years

Oddly named town in "outback" Newfoundland

B enjoying the "view"
